I just bought a 1995 e-150 cargo van. 5.0, 150000 mi. It has a code 12 flashing, which is a previously disconnected battery I believe. Id like to know if I can clear the flashing light myself. Is this something that auto zone will do if I cant. However I do not live close to one. thanks in advance
all fuses are now good. 5, 15, and 18 were good. the only bad one was #10, a 25 amp. Not sure what #10 is for as I do not have an owners manual. I thought everything was working. It passed inspection anyway. My 97 van has different fuse panel, so that manual was no help. however I still have the code 12 flashing. I am also assuming that code 12 may mean more than the battery was disconnected at one time as I was told. Or may not mean that at all . Do I understand that the only way to clear an airbag code is after the repair is made? And the self test will automaticly clear the code from flashing? Also if it WAS flashing for the battery disconnected, It should not flash after the vehicle started again because of reconnecting the battery. So what does code 12 mean for a 95 e-150 van?

Yes and it has nothing to do with a battery being disconnected at one time.

Yes that is correct.

It has nothing to do with the self-test, this is another computer (module) altogether.

A battery being disconnected will not cause a code.

The air bag diagnostic monitor measures the voltage at pin 13 of the diagnostic monitor connector. Voltage at pin 13 should be equal to battery voltage. If the voltage measured at pin 13 drops to less than 9 volts, the air bag diagnostic monitor will flash out code 12.
Possible Causes
A drop in battery voltage at pin 13 of the air bag diagnostic monitor can be caused by:
(1) An open circuit that would prevent battery voltage from reaching pin 13 of the air bag diagnostic monitor.
(2) NOTE: If the instrument panel fuse and/or the power distribution fuse are blown, make sure to diagnose the system for possible causes 2 and 3.
A short to ground in Circuit 611 (W/O) or 612 (P/O) may result in a blown instrument panel fuse and/or power distribution fuse.
(3) An internal short to ground within RH cowl side panel front air bag safing sensor and bracket may result in a blown instrument panel fuse and/or power distribution fuse.
(4) A problem in the charging system causing battery voltage to drop below 9 volts.
