Hi I just bought a 89 Bronco with a 5L 302 and i cant seem to find any specs on thease motors, How much HP and Torque do thease motors have? and how do they compare to the 5L in the mustangs?
Add the mileage it has must be figured in too, so it is dropping steadily!! Don't be too focused on HP, torque is what makes these trucks run down the trail, You should focus on the low rpm torque numbers. It is the seat of the pants wow factor that makes your friends impressed power!! A couple guys I know who swapped in either mustang motors or chevy 350 hi hp(almost vette motors for the bowtie guys I know) Are really ashamed that they spent all that money and my truck just tanks through right past them at about 1800 rpm, When they were spinning it up at 3500 rpm risking breaking axles and driveshafts just because their motors fall on it's face below 2000 rpm!! Especially in sand low rpms will get you through the deep stuff, if your motor takes high rpms to have power your wheels will be hopping and spinning and of course digging you down deeper. Not to mention high stall convertors most guys run when they build up a motor it is like one of those double negative things!!
