I didn't though. Beerstalker led me on to them and i'm glad he did. Never thought i could get this much good, clean, tight bass from two 10's. Everyone give Beerstalker some reputation if you can.
Yes in a sense 4AWG is twice the size of 8AWG. AWG is the American wire gauge, its the standard for wire used in most applications other than care audio. Its measured in what they call circular mils. Car audio uses the same terms for their sizes but the wire is totally different, AKA monster cable. The insulation is different and the conductors are very fine spun copper rather than thick solid copper which you find in your home. It works better for audio applications due to resistance and voltage drop which are very important when dealing with DC power especially at 12volts.
The most common misconseption about wiring in cars is the red conductor is the HOT or dangerous one, which is the case in DC, it is but it isnt. Electricity is all about potential, and the power path of a car the black is ground or common, and it always WANTs to get back to the battery. Leaving the red wire on the battery and disconnecting the black one and getting inbetween that is very dangerous. As a human you dont ever want to get between voltage potential and ground in AC or DC
I've got to admit, I had never heard of Image Dynamics either until about 4 years ago. After I burned up the vioce coil of the second JL Audio sub in my Stealthbox, my buddy told me about them. He sold me his IDQ10D2V2 that he wasn't using and it fit perfectly in my Stealthbox. I didn't even have to drill new mounting holes. I got it installed and was utterly impressed. I thought it sounded much better and louder than the JL Audio sub it replaced. I have been telling people about them ever since, and not one person I have got to buy them has been disappointed.
Here are pics of the install, just click on the picture to go to my Webshots.
Just in case you didn't know, 4 gauge is twice the size that of a 8 gauge wire. (diameter not area im assuming). I got them fused at 40 amps for each amplifier and if it blows fuses i can upgrade to 50a's i have.
Did you make the speaker box?
Did you end up having to cut any of the gray carpet on the back wall (especially the huge parts that stick out for the vents) to make it fit?
I removed the left side vent, and just soundproofed over it. The tar on the soundproofing should keep water out. I had to trim the small rib that sticks out about halfway down. I removed the panel and easily cut it with the sharp side of the hose cutter which is just like a razor.
lol word of advise, never run a 12v live wire under carpet and floor through unless you tape the end of it lol....u'll create a big spark too! and even damage items!
lol....i made that dumb mistake once..but nothing serious happened.......
we all go threw things at 1 point and learn....Best of luck!
