The old rough idle problem

I have read ten pages of rough idle threads in the search engine and can't seem to find a remedy. There are lots of suggestions but I can't find where anyone has posted a solution.

Here are my symptoms. Motor runs fine. At a stop light I notice a reverberation thru the truck. The tach does not move. The motor does not die. i just have this vibration. No smoke. No loss of power. It does it in drive, park and neutral. I recently changed the motor oil. It started after that. Today I changed the tranny fluid and screen/filter. No change.

What do you think?

Thanks.

Could it be some bad diesel ? Did you gas up at same place you usually gas up?

What type of motor oil did you use? I recently "tonite" had the same thing happen. To nite i changed my oil usung delo 400 le. Big mistake! My truck hates the stuff. So immediately change the oil again using motorcraft 15-40 powerstroke oil. Now all is well. I will never use delo 400 LE again.

Is it a vibration through the truck??? I know that my 4" down pipe was " just touching" one of my tranny cross member bolts and it made all kids of racket....

Hmmmm. I have used Rotella religiously since 02 in my truck. In April I changed it to Delo for some Molybdenum or whatever it is called for cleaning in the injectors. I am on my second change of Delo and no real problems to speak of. Dyno and drag strip #s were good there too.

I am not saying that the oil cannot be a problem, I am saying it is OK in my rig.

What are you using, Delo 400 or Delo 400 LE?

I too have used the delo 400 before without any probs, but that delo 400 LE (low emissions) stuff was no good for my truck.

i have the 400 le in my rig to experiment an dnoticed the imediate drop in performance and mileage, i am going back to the mobil delvac, much better, and in my opinion the delvac is better then the rottela as far as longevity. not saying rotella is bad, i have run both in my truck but i like the delvac better

I'm with Mr. Bob - sounds like exhaust to me. Maybe just coincidence about the oil change? Maybe just now noticed it? I know my 5 exhaust does exactly what you are describing. If you idle up a bit, does it go away?

I used Delo 400LE. I have used Delo in the past, not sure if it is LE though. The vibration does go away when I accelerate or click into the high idle mod on my tuner. Which part of the exhaust should I be looking at? I had it installed over a year ago. Think it would be showing up now?

Maybe your problem is different, but mine was the Delo 400 LE! Like i said, as soon as i got rid of it, truck ran perfectly! I would hate for you to change your oil (because of me) and it didnt help, but then again, what if it does help...tuff call.

Having it installed a year ago would suggest something other than the exhaust, I'd think, but your problem still sounds identical to mine - mine was rattling against the heat shields, and when I would idle up a bit, and the motor smoothes out, it would go away. Mine wasn't a constant thing, the rattling would kind of surge, for lack of a better word. Rattle rattle rattle.....rattle rattle rattle...rattle rattle well you get the idea.

Maybe one of your hangers moved or loosened?

Just for kicks, unplug your ICP and see if the idle smooths out.
