I have a 2001 F350 that has quite a few dents in the center portion of the bed. I have looked at my shop manual (CD), the Haynes manual, every reference to "bed" in this forum and tried to locate schematics for the bed through a Google image search all without answering my question:
Can just the center panel(s) of the bed be replaced?
It looks like they can be; the bed is not a one-piece unit.
Additionally, Ford list a part (#8C3Z9911215A) with a retail
price of $402.85 which is referred to as a bed panel sub-assembly.
Unfortunately, I am unable to locate a picture of this part so I
cannot confirm whether this is what I am looking for.
All of the posts here seem to indicate that removal of the bed bolts allows the bed to be removed. I just want to remove the center portion of the bed without taking the bed itself off.
Anyone here have any experience with this situtation? It is greatly appreciated. I want to Line-X my bed but want to make sure that the bed itself is in better shape than it is now. Thank you.
You won't be able to replace the bottom of the bed without removing it. It is what holds the bed up! The outer bed panels weld to the inner bed panels and the front panel. THe side and front weld to the bottom. The bottom is welded to the cross members. You can do it, it is very time consuming and you need a spot weld drill and good mig machine and good welder to do it right. It usually pays 12 hours to do each outer side panel on the typical pickup, so that might give you an idea of the labor involved.
The dealer can provide you with an exploded parts view of the bed parts.
What color is your truck? I got a brand new take off bed for my truck factory matching paint for around $1500. Well worth it.
Thank you for the quick replies gentlemen. The answer is what I did not want to hear but I believe it to be correct. It did not make sense that the center floor panel(s) could be removed and simply replaced. I will either have to purchase a take-off bed (mine is white but I do live in Las Vegas!) or just forget the Line-X and go with a heavy-duty mat for the time being until I can find a bed here locally. Thanks again for the input.

White is so easy to find. It might be better to get a new bed.
Call a place that sells utility or service bodies. Those places normally have takeoff beds for reasonable prices and they are almost always white. Here in louisiana, new take-off beds are around $1000.00 to $1200.00 and they don't even have a scratch on them.
Thanks, I have already located a brand new dually (mine is the DRW model) in Canton, California (not to far away from Las Vegas) bed in white no less that is starting out on Ebay (with no reserve) of $850. I am already contemplating the swap; will probably need at least two assistants from what I have read here.
Also, couldn't you swap the fenders over to the new bed? I haven't looked at one in a while, but know the fenders are seperate parts. That would open up the possibilities.
