whats up guys i am have a question. i am in the need for a torch when i go play mechainic in the garage. i really have no room for full size torch rig. so i was looking at one of thesehttp://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?actio...663&lpage=none.
my question is how long will it last until i need to refill them. all i really do is heat up or cut bolts and maybe some steel. i wont use it all the time but it seems every once in a while i need to heat up a bolt or two.
The flea market near me has them cheaper and he carries full cylinders, I would check around you can find that smaller set up that uses the small 1 or 2 pound cylinders for pretty cheap, it can cut and do everyting you need. It is the oxygen that get's used up quick, so stock up on them if your planning on doing some cutting, Murphys law will bite you while cutting you'll always end up with 3/4 left to cut and no o2!!!
It is hard to say how long it is going to last! if you cut thin metal or just bar stock and angle iron it will last a while, if your cutting 1/4 or 3/8 thick plate depending on the strength of the steel you could burn a whole tank(o2) in a couple of minutes!! If you happen to know someone on oxygen therapy and they have on of those oxygen seperators laying around not being used, then we can talk, you can burn steel forever!! Well as long as you had enough acetylene!! That little kit(1,2 lb cylinders) will probably work for just to have around in case, plus it is easier to tote on the trail if you do some serious wheeling.
