I installed the jake tune yesterday and have to say it works great.I live in the rockies so most drives are either up or down hills.I only hit the brake pedal to come to a complete stop with the tune in.Question is is it ok to leave the tune in for all my around town driving everyday. It sure exersizes the turbo but are there any ill effects.TIA
It is on the sct3 spartan sent me.I have a 6 speed and once installed the program seems to make the vanes in the turbo slow the rpms some how on closed throttle.I am not sure how it works but it sure works great.
It is a SCT option to be programmed into the "Aggressive Tow" tune. If you run your tow tune "around town" then it is active. If you switch it out and use it only while you are towing it isn't in the other tunes.
Suggest you go to the SCT website and ask there or your programmer who did it for you.
Exercising the vanes is a good thing. It helps prevent them from sticking. I believe the last several PCM updates from Ford (for the 6.0) even incorporate something that excercises them at idle. As for whether or not the tune is bad for anything else if you run it long term, you may have to ask Matt.
it will not hurt anything, The stock pcm flash does the same thing. If you listen to your truck idle and you have an exhaust w/ no kitty, you will hear it spool to warm up the engine by creating backpressure. the auto's w/ do this similar thing and lock the converter in tow/haul mode.
I am not sure dustball. My x3 locked up when I was trying to do exactly that yesterday. It took a couple hours to get it sorted out and I havent got a chance to try again yet.Its listed as one of the options with wheel size ,tq lockup and such on mine so it looks that way.Ill let you know when I try and reload it again.
Can the jake brake option be turned on with the sct in any tune?? Thanks!
Not with the normal tunes from SCT. It is an added option to the tow tune only.
Now MAtt, or other tuners, might be able to add it to the Street or Performance tunes by why? It is a part of the tow tune and you can switch it in or out in less than 5 minutes. You might try contacting SCT throu the website to see if they can do what you are interested in doing.
