When you ask about a Jake (Jacobs) Brake...are you talking about a true Jake Brake that is on top of the head controlling the valves like on a Class 7/8 truck or a PacBrake like you can bolt into your exhaust that will cause back pressure? A PacBrake looks like a carb butterfly in the exhaust pipe. A Jake Brake is under the valve covers and is a hydraulic device that controls a valve that effects the compression of the motor...I don't understand enough about a Jake Brake to explain how exactly it works.

they use the compression of the motor to slow it down....some can be adjusted by how many cylinders you want to brake....also requires a High volume oil pump if the truck is not equipped with one....
