Engine Just Shuts Off

While Driving Down The Road It Just Shuts Off? Pull Off If Possible Turn It Over A Few Times Fires Up And Will Run Fine. Only Does This When It Sits Over Night Or For Awhile. After Problem, Truck Runs Fine. Sometimes While Sitting It Smells Like Gas Bad, But No Leaks. Any Clues??

Start by changing your fuel filters.

Helps to post a description of the truck.... engine trans etc

Go over your carbon canister real good!! gas smell would be an indication something is screwwy with it!!

400m 4-speed, Filter Replaced, The Smell Is Back By The Gas Tank. Not The Front. Is Was Running Fine, Now Its Doing It Again.

The carbon canister connects to the top of the tank, the line could be off back there!! It has a liquid vapor seperator on top of the tank, If the hose is shot or off it will smell it up, Go over the whole system try compressed air through the line it maybe clogged. there is quite a bit of pressure on it during the heat of the day!! Don't smoke down there while you are working on it!!

Try running it without the gas cap?

Is the problem predictable or just random? Tank full or low?

I had a Ranchero with a 400m that did that, I replaced the square electric box that mounts on the inner fender and wires to the distributor -i ferget what its called- car ran perfect after that.

Last Night Going To Work It Shut Off, But On The Way Home It Was Fine. I Got 2 Boxes Do You Know Off Hand Which One It Is?

Check the reading on the distributor stator, Get a can of keyboard duster and when it cut's off hold the can upside down and spray the stator with it for like 2 seconds! If it fires up after that it is probably the resistance is increasing with heat!!!

Took A Long Trip Drove About 50 Miles. Didn't Shut Off At All. When It Shuts Off There Is No More Power, I Can Hear The Engine Run For About 20 Seconds And Then Dies. Stop Takes About 5-6 Times Of Turning Over Then Start Up And Runs Fine.
