Its plugged up and I dont wanna fork over the outragous price of the oem cat. I do however want to stay legal. Im not sure but I think if its rated for a smaller engine it will still work but wont be able to hold back as much.
Are you sure it's plugged up? That's unusual since leaded gas hasn't been around since long before these engines were made. The stock cat has a lower restriction than most aftermarket "high flow" cats.
Which catalytic converters are good for the V10? All the ones I can find are for 5.9L engines and smaller. What difference does that make?
First off, are you in a "Sniffer Test State" such as California or any state that adopted Cali emissions? If you are the best bet would be an OE replacement or aftermarket direct repleacement.
I have a little Dynatech 3" cat on my truck. It isn't rated for displacement or anything like that. You can see through the thing very easily so I figured capacity or flow isn't really a concern for me. Local emissions for me is just a visual check, just have to have a CAT don't matter what kind. I have been running the dynatech cat for over a year with no problems.
Converter size is usually determined by displacement. More Ci = Bigger larger Capacity Cat Less Ci = Smaller less Capacity Cat.
Search for cats on Summit Racings site, you will find all different capacity converters for different cubic inch engines.
Thanks for the tips. Im not really sure what exactly they do here but a mechanic said most cars can still pass here unless they are new and the engine light is on. This is in NY. I used to live in cali and you cant do ***** out there to any part of the vehicle.
