misfire?

my 82 f-150 has started missing at any rpm and will not idle, the carb has been replaced with a new store bought one and the plugs have been changed. The plugwires are less than a month old and the cap and rotor are new too. I can smell it dumping raw gas out the exhaust like its not firing all the cylinders. I've pulled the plugs and checked this and they all fire when grounded. I think its the ignition module, anyone else agree??

TIA
Tim

Check that carb real good. Are you sure that it is new and not rebuilt? I have had times where we would go through several carbs just to get one right. Normally this was the norm when it came to rebuilts. Also, check fuel pressure regulator.
One last thing to check is vacuum. Check lines for vacuum leak. Check brake booster line for chaff marks on the underside that could cause leaks. I mention this over and over again in posts and have had this give me a run for the money several times in the past. Good luck. Jake.

thanks jake, i'll check the booster line next...i've always thought something was up with it being loose in the booster socket. but it seems more like an ignition miss, but all the components except the distributor and duraspark have been changed out. it flooded my last set of plugs with the old carb so bad half the insulator was black. it may be a rebuild, but the receipt says its new. oh well..i suppose if this doesn't cure it i'm getting rid of it...i'm tired of constantly wrenching on it

Desperado, Did you replace the plugs after foul out? No matter how well you clean them, there never the same. Also, are they platimun. That can cause a prob also. I suggest Motocraft plugs. Other brands can haunt you sometimes. Just a thought. Good luck.
