Smile My Restrictor Plate

After searching high and low for the thread that told you how to do it with washers I finally gave up and decided to go with the dual EGR gasket/metal plate sandwich. While waiting for the gaskets I removed the EGR and realized that a flange nut for maybe a 1/4" bolt would fit right in the tube. Nut side toward the exhaust so as not to have the nut interfere with the EGR Valve itself. I liked the idea of a 1/4" hole as opposed to an 1/8" hole because I was hesitant to block off more than I needed.

Well it worked. Stupid miss/hesitation/stumble @ 1800-2000 RPM is gone. Finally. I have tried everything under the sun to isolate that problem and didn't want to do this because of emmissions. Now it's done and I'll see what happens with emissions in 14 months.

I want to thank all the good folks here at this forum.

Alex

Question 327 334

High octane doesn't make that stumble go away and the state has cracked down on the guys taking the 20's.

I went from mid grade fuel to regular to see if my gas mileage would change from 19 mpg. Possibly a coincidence but two trouble codes popped up.
327 and 334. I'm still trying to psychoanalyze the cause.

Any ideas?

Alex,

Sorry.....I haven't checked in with you guy's lately.
Was this what you were looking for ???

Here's a copy of my/the post.

Even easier than the EGR restrictor plate would be (from an earlier post).....

"Go a hardware store and get a couple of 3/4" diameter fender washers, one with a 5/32" hole in it, and the other with a 7/32" hole in it.
Loosen the tube nut on the EGR valve and slide it back a little and insert the fender washer with the 7/32" hole in between the EGR valve and the flange for the EGR tube then snug it all back up.
This will allow EGR to flow (at a reduced rate) into the system and keep the CEL light off.
Test drive your truck a couple of days. If there's the slightest hint of a stumble or hesitation, do the above again and replace the washer with the 7/32" hole in it with the other washer that has the 5/32" hole in it.

In a sense.....it's an inline EGR Restrictor Plate !!!!

My total cost for this fix was 34 cents....and that was for 2 washers !!!! "

Much easier to install---1 nut*** EGR Tube Nut *** to loosen/tighten
Already fabricated
Hidden from the smog *****' visual inspection

This is a band-aid fix---and a good one at that---for the EGR stumble.
It's most likely that you have a vacuum leak somewhere in your system that needs to be corrected.

Give it a try
"

I guess better late than never.

Happy Wrenching,

Bob

I read through at least 20 pages looking for that! Thanks. The trouble codes I'm getting are intermitent. 99% of the time the light is not on. I'm not sure if it's the regulator, position sensor or maybe the valve itself. As far as the valve is concerned, sucking on the vacuum port opens it easily. How much vacuum can a person generate?

Turns out that there was a loose red wire on the regulator. Again. That should take care of that.
