Oil leak at filter

In trying to help stop an oil leak on a fresh 292 with a canister type oil filter housing, I suggested we switch to a spin on type adapter for convenience and no leaks. NOT! After removing filter housing I find two different styles of adapters are available, and after trying both, I can't get either type not to leak. The first type, purchased from DC, uses a seal and a metal plate held to the block with a double sided threaded fitting that is approx. 1" diameter that screws directly into the block, leaving a 3/4" bung pointing out for the FL1A to screw onto. It has a notation marked top with an oval hole at about the 4:30 location that pretty closely matches up to a hole in the area behind the plate in the block. Since the sealing surface on the block and the face of the threaded boss of the block where the retaining nut goes is at the same height, you don't get a lot of clamp load on the seal. The next style adapter, made by Wix, requires you to leave the original nut in the block because it's retaining nut is also double sided but it's 3/4" on both sides and the plate has more concaveness about it but it seems that the middle of the plate comes into contact with the original hex nut fitting in the block which I think also prevents it from allowing much clamp load around the edges at the gasket. Coincidently, it also has a notation of top but it has 3x 1/4" holes grouped together from about 11-1 o clock position. This setup leaks the worst. At the end I have even tried putting the canister back on with new washers and new gasket and it leaks even more that it did to start with, but not as bad as with the adapters. I lightly glued the seal to the block, using no added glues/silicone. It did have some silicone on the block side of the original seal. Help!
