Beware my fellow PSD lovers, they are on the prowl as always. My baby was almost stolen out of my driveway last night. I have been away at work for half of my 48 shift when my wife calls me at 0700 this morning saying that my truck is halfway in the street. Long story short, they fooked my ignition up, then after not being able to start it, tried to PUSH it out of the side drive halfway into the street in hopes I assume of towing it away. The Smith&Wesson is chambered and ready for the next round as someone will be going to the hospital soon, and it wont be me!!!!!
Sometimes it pays to have a really heavy truck!! Can't push them far. Glad they didn't get it and hope you can get things fixed after they messed with it.
The locksmith is on the way to replace my ignition and re-key it to my existing key. All in all I got lucky this time, no windows broken amazingly! They must have slim-jimmed the lock.
It ticks me off when I hear that happening to one of the FTE guys I can imagine what would happen if someone would try it to me. Why would someone try to steal it in plain sight out of the owners driveway, not too smart if you ask me.
Wow..that's the third theft job from an FTE member in 2-weeks. I've been reading these threads and in one case the memeber lives in San Diego. The SD Sheriff dept. just told the member that theft is a common occurance and that there's not much that they can do about it.
This member recieved a call from the CHP stating that the border patroll had found his truck in Boulevard Mexico? and that it was used as avehicle to smuggle Mexican across the border.
It was a crew cab with a bed shell that the passenger and rear bench seats removed and all of the side and back windows were spray painted black.
It appears that all of the southern border states are prime targets?
Here is some more food for thought re "Vehicle Theft" In the past I worked Motorcycle thefts and one of the big tricks was using publications like Auto Trader, Truck Trader etc.
The selling party runs an ad to sell the vehicle, gets a phone call from the prospective buyer who wants to inspect the vehicle so the seller give the buyer his/her home address. The buyer comes to the house, looks the vehicle over and leaves, saying they have to make arraingements to get the money etc.
A couple of days later, viola, vehicle gone. These guys are so good they can get buy the most advanced alarm systems and or locks because they want your vehicle. This is their job, stealing from you.
Solution: Never, never under any circumstance have a prospective buyer come to your house. Meet them at a police station, a parking lot, anywhere but your residence or job site and always have a second person with you.
If you think that it can't happen to you............IT WILL.
A guy at my dads work was trying to sell his rice burner that had a system and all that crap. He meet a guy somewhere and all the guys buddys beat the crap out of my dads freind and stold his system and wallet and all.
Sence i herd that I always meet someone at wal-mart during the day with a buddy with me.
WOW Suber!! Sorry to hear that but at least you didn't lose it. I hope you get it fixed soon. NM is one of the worst states for pickup thefts, especially Fords because they are so dang tough!! And yeah - most of them go right to Mexico. Do you have an ignition disconnect of some type or did the theives not know how to hot wire a diesel?
If you have to park in the driveway or street, pull in frontwards and/or as close as you can to a wall, curb, other vehicle, or something that won't move - so the truck has to move backwards to be stolen. That way they can't lift the front end. Then turn the wheels full lock and use a club or something similar.
PS Hone your shooting skills until you can send them to the morgue instead of the hospital!! Hope you plug 'em next time.
That makes think twice about leaving me keys in the ignition all the time. Sorry to hear man.
Anyway... To lighten things up guys, go to youtube and search for bait cars. I don't most of these guys stealing our beloved vehicles are as smart as week think. Check it out. Its a good laugh.
The worst part of it all is I work 48 hour shifts and my wife and kids are here by themselves at night when I am on duty. I do in fact have a glow plug relay disabler and that is the ONLY thing that saved my truck from being GONE. It would have been south of the border by sunlight I am most certain.
BTW, she is up and running for a mere 150.00 total. Not too bad considering I was hours away from 15,000 out the window, and a very nice 97 that would be hard to replace in the condition that it is.
