Just want to clear something up -- there were a couple threads recently about coolants and flushing. The one that just popped up made me think fo this...
I think I referred to the Rotella ELC equivalent at Wally-World as "Peak Global Lifetime". That is **INCORRECT**!! The red ELC there is "Final Charge" with the pic of the big rig on it. They're right next to each other, so be careful. There is a difference, and I hope I didn't steer someone wrong.
Just wanted to post that, because I realized when I was at WM yesterday that I screwed up, and that thread made me remember that I wanted to post a correction. I'll see if I can find the other thread and post a correction there as well...
Good, i wanted to change over to the red coolant, so it's at Walmart huh? Is it concentrate, because thats what i want. Almost everything ive done under the hood is red and red water in the bottle would look tit.
It was the "Global" part that got me... "Peak Global Lifetime" and "Final Charge Global" were apparently too much for my feeble brain synapses to keep separate...
Looks like three different types there. Is there a difference in them. One looks like 50/50, what are the other two? I'm doing my flush in two weeks. Thanks for all the info!
Hey IZZY thanks for the info doing my coolant change soon .So you are saying you could mix the Rotella ELC with the Final Charge Coolant and it will be OK? How can I test to see if the mix is good .Heard some people talking about some kind of stick to check the mix if so where can I get them .Thanks
I wouldn't mix it homesteader. Get about 20 gals of distilled and run it through the system and it should be clean enough to add the red stuff.
There are three -- one is the concentrate, one is the 50/50 and the third is for swapping from standard coolant to FCG. It's a method for companies with large fleets so every single truck doesn't have to be completely flushed & refilled. For us, I think it's best to just do a flush with distilled & refill with the standard FCG coolant. You only need 8 gallons of 50/50, or 4 gallons of concentrate with 4 gallons of distilled water...
BTW, it almost sounds like I'm pushing this stuff as an owner or something. Not sure how I ended up as the "expert" -- just trying to straighten out my own screw up!! You can use this, Rotella ELC, or whatever you want -- I'm not in the biz nor do I have any interest in the company...
So how does one go about getting all "water" out of the system to add in pure 8 gallons of the 50/50 mix?
Don't know, Kris. You might try compressed air to blow out the heater core *carefully*, but for the stuff left in the block, I don't know. I'd be interested to know how much coolant & water the system takes after being "completely" drained. I've heard of folks using the 50/50 stuff without any problems, but I'm OCD/**** retentive enough to want it at the right mixture...
