Hello gbsales, and welcome to FTE Yes, there is a variable voltage output from the light circuit in the truck. The aftermarket radio is the deciding factor here. Dimming of the display requires an input on the radio for this function. Good luck!
I know the radio has a dimming feature. I think it's supposed to dim when the headlights come on but it doesn't. Before I complained to the installer I wanted to check first. Is the dimming you speak of controlled by turning on the lights or just from the dial on the dash?

Both, the wire in question is light blue with a red stripe. This comes from the headlight switch and is a direct output of the variable control in the light switch. This voltage is supplied to the radio, EATC, ashtray lamp, dash lights, etc. that light up when the lights are turned on and are controlled with the variable control. Good luck!
