raced my buddy in his 01 dodge. Auto,AFE,straight pipe, edge juice.
we started going maybe 20mph..I was in 3rd at about 2300rpm. I held him for maybe 100 feet, grabbed a gear..heard his truck shift then he slowly inched away on me, by the top of the hill (1/2 mile or more) he was 1.5 truck lengths ahead of me. I was in my 140 setting and he was only in his 100..so he says. he is within reach..the pms is raging pretty hard as of now.
hmmm it kinda depends onthe truck I guess, those 73's will kill ya man lol I know they do for me.... I have beat a buddies dodge that had injectors edge comp box and all kinds of goodies while running my 34's but with 37' I lost lol
ha yea, hes runnin 35s right now...so the 2inch difference might make up half a truck length. I'll have to try him again when I get my clutch regulated return and my OBA in....might be a bit closer.
Sounds like the only advantage for your buddy is the fact that he's got an auto. Being beat by 1.5 truck lengths is about the time it took for you to shift from 3rd to 4th. You gotta remember, he's got an auto. I would not be upset. Crack, you really need an auto for what your using the truck for!
Clutch, reg return, and OBA are not going to make up 1.5 truck lengths. Run it in the 120 Race tune next time with the above mods and I bet its a whole lot closer. the 140 just dumps too much fuel to it that the stock turbo cant clean up (i.e. 140 smoke) Oh and the 37's and the extra wind drag from the lift aint helpin.(looks damn good, but just aint helpin)
I know it won't make up the difference..but it has to improve a bit...the 120 setting theory is interesting..it just might work!
the reason I say this is people have made more dyno HP in the 120 setting than the 140. Tenn01PSD actually ran better in the quarter in the 80 setting (i think) i'll let him chime in on that though.
I was testin out the 120 a bit today and it feel to pull just as hard as the 140..and in the higher rpms it cleans up..so it may be a bit quicker...only one way to find out...
I only have two tunes for the track, the 120r and 80e. The others are tow or hi idle. I ran the 120r repeatedly in 4x4 and 2wd to see what I could do. Then in the end, after about 8 runs, I tried the 80e and it was every bit as fast as the 120r. So that is an equipment deficiency I have that cannot take advantage of the 120r setting. At least that is my explanation. I would have little use for a 140 tune right now.
I have 80E and 120R as well -- the only reason I'm getting the 140 is for the extreme soot cloud. I also want a tow setting and high-idle. On top of that, I need to send it back to Jody anyway to get it worked for the TransGo that's about to go in mine...
FWIW, I've raced both a Dodge & a D-Max with the Edges. Neither could beat me, but both were encounters in a bit of traffic, so it was hard to tell. I have a 2WD Auto, so I think it's about the quickest combo for our trucks (except for dealing with rear wheel spin off the line).
yea stick diesels suck for anything fun with power, but its still fun. Im not really building it to race...but I want it to go fast........damn I need an auto
