heads up...for any one that uses a pre-filter on their after market intake filter, clean it often. at the end of july i went to flaming gorge in utah as i was driving from cheyenne to green river i thought my EGT was a bit higher than it should be and the truck was working pretty hard to get up some hills i didnt think where that bad. so this weekend i went up to granby for one last camping trip, i have drivin there many times and know how the truck should perform. i was hitting 1250 on the EGT on hills i have blasted up with no problems in the past and max boost was 15 to maybe 20 psi. so now i know something is wrong. when we got to the camp site i checked all the CAC tube boots (figured i had a boost leak somewhere) and all looked fine. so i thought maybe i should check the air filter, i pulled the pre-filter off and held the filter up to the sun and it looked fine, i pick up the pre-filter and did the same thing...no light comming through at all. after i cleaned it i could see straight through it. the thing that really suprised me was i cleaned it right before i went hunting last year (october) and a year of driving for me is maybe 7500 miles and i dont live in a "dusty" area. after cleaning it everything was fine
I have to agree with wliihntr. I've seen my filter cover get pretty dirty after about 6-8K miles, and I don't even go off road at all. It's a pretty simple wash and dry execrise for my home-made cover.
Thanks for the reminder, cause mine is about due for another wash right now.
Mine gets really bad too. The first time that I checked mine it was covered with pollen. I mean packed tight covered. It was on the underside so when looking at it with the hood open you couldn't see it. Since then I check and clean it often.

Pollen? I though it would be nothing but tumble weeds.. so much for moving to Texas to get away from my allergies.

That's West Texas. I am in East Texas. Forests so thick that you can't even walk through them, no exxageration. I have never seen a place with this many trees. In the spring the pollen is so bad here it turns everything yellow.
