Does the Sharper Image Ionic Breeze work?
If so, has the health of everyone in the house gotten better? I'd like to get one as a christmas gift for us all. This house is 50 years old, and I want to protect us from all the crud that's built up in the walls since it was built. Maybe it will help with the colds and sinus problems around here too.
Here are some web sites of interest on IAQ, Indoor Air Quality. The pages I am sending are on air cleaning devices, home IAQ and our Divisions web site where you can find more links to IAQ.
My concern as a health professional is not specifically...does it work but how does it work.
Ion generators do not "remove particles from the room" they create negative ions and these ions attach themselves to particles, which attach themselves to other charged particles in the room. e.g. furniture, TV, drapes, floor, walls….
Yes the particles may be out of your breathing space, but not for long.
Another thing about ion generators is that they can produce ozone. Ozone has its place and ozone generators are useful for fire/smoke damage, but not good for human inhabitance.
