From personaly expeirence I've found like 4 types of tire measurements, I'll give examples.
L78-15, 13.6X38, 235/75R15, 32x9.50-15LT And they are opposites For example 13.6X38 is 13.6 wide on a 38 inch rim where as 32X9.50-15LT 9.50 wide on a 15 inch rim. Why can't they just standardize it? And I have no idea on L78-15 It seems to be common on old snow tires though
On the l78-15, the L would be a load rating, the 78 would be the aspect ratio, and the 15 would be the rim size. Normally there would be 2 letters, a load rating and a r for radial, but I guess this tirs a bias ply.
Actually, tire sizes *are* standardized.
L78-15 -- an obsolete size that you can only find on old tires.
13.6x38 -- never heard of that
32X9.50-15LT is for floatation tires -- I think only used on some light truck tires.
235/75R15 is a standard size, though usually there's a P or LT in front of it

Actualy the 13.6X38 is a very common tire. As is the 15.5X38 or the 16.9X30. But the point is I can actualy understand it. As I said the first number is the tire width and the second number is the rim size.
