i have an 2008 f250 diesel and it goes into regen about every 18 hours and stays in the regen mode for about 20 minutes but it smokes (white smoke) like hell under the hood and even comes between the cab and bed any sugestions

It doesn't take a leak large enough to be audible to cause a huge cloud of white smoke at the leak. One evidence of a leak before the dpf are telltale soot trails. Usually, the joint between the turbo and exhaust system is great for leaks due to thermal cycling, especially if it isn't sealed well with a graphite-type seal. You could also have a leak at the exhaust manifold on the right side of the engine. You have 4 gaskets plus a joint between the manifold and turbo(s).
