winterizing 52 f1
hey guys somewhere i thought i saw that the 52 flathead had a drain on the engine block. but now cant find it is there one or not?

If I remember correctly the drain is on the drivers side just above the oil pan towards the back of the engine.

ya thats where i think it is too make sure you got good antifreeze in there dont want to crack the water jacket this winter. make sure you test it

What is in the cooling system now? If it`s just mostly water it`s safer to add some antifreeze in rather than just draining water out in case you don`t quite get ALL the water out. There are NO frost plugs in a Flat Head engine.
If it has weak antifreeze good to at least minus 15-20 your good to go, it may jell but shouldn`t freeze.

it had just water in it and i took both bottom hoses off and drained them also took heater hoses off motor got no water out of them. but not sure if good to go as my garage has no heat

Best to add some antifreeze, enough to insure it won`t freeze then run it till it reaches operating temp, it`s cheap insurance.

There should be dual plugs, shouldn't there be???
Also windshield water is better for old cast blocks then antifreeze, it displaces water.

good tip there Ryan!!! sounds like a good dose of a winter windshield washer would be the trick!!

be safe rather than sorry in this case man you dont want to crack that water jacket.
