Just bought my first SD it's a 06 and unfortunately it does not have a slider window back glass. I'd love to have a power one but even a manual would do. Any advice? Are all of them wired for a power unit?
While I cannot answer the power question, I will say that the rear windows are relatively easy to remove & replace, as I have ended up installing one in a previous truck.
Get a length of thin rope (like 1/4") long enough to go around the window and a spray bottle full of a mild, soap & water mixture. A second set of hands will make this much easier.
To remove the window, start inside the cab...usually one of the top corners, and just push it out. It takes a bit of force to get the rubber seal to relenquish its hold, but once it does, the window will come out pretty easily. The seal is basically just an "H" shape...with one side holding the window & the other seating into the window frame.
Depending on the replacement window, you may have to transfer the window seal over to the new window. Following that, push the rope into the channel of seal that goes into the window frame....starting about midway along the bottom edge of the window & going all of the way around. If you cut the rope down a bit, just make sure to leave the ends about two feet longer than needed so that you can still get a good grip on the rope while it is wrapped around the window.
From the bed of the truck, set the bottom of the window in place with the loose ends of the rope ending up inside the cab. Do the initial seating of the window by pushing it down onto the window frame pretty well. Then from the inside, you can start spraying the weather strip & outside edge of the window frame with the soapy water mixture. You can either spray the entire edge down, or spray as you go. Either way, the next step is to slowly pull the rope at a 90 degree angle...straight back into the cab. This will eventually pull the rope out of the seal's channel, but it should also deform the seal enough to get it pop around with window frame & into place.
Hi Larry, I got the complete slider assembly from Ford, and had a glass guy install the window assembly.
F81Z-25422B30-AC part # for power sliding rear window with wire harness, switch and motor. There is enough wire for installation in a crew cab.
The "kit" was about 600 bucks though.

Thanks for the info. I really appreciate it! Larry
