Has anyone heard about the 2001 supercrews with the class 3 trailer towing package having the wrong radiator installed?
If you have this setup you should have the upgraded radiator which is 1.42 inches thick. Most people got the standard radiator which is 1.02 inches thick.
At another 150 site the members are really upset about it and most are getting the run around from the dealers.
I just went out and measured the thickness of my radiator core. It's about 1-1/16" inches. It's definitely not close to the 1.42" you described.
Is there somewhere I can go to get specs or a description that I can otherwise show to my dealer?

Dave,
If you have the 1.02 inch radiator with the class 3 towing package in a 2001 supercrew you have the wrong radiator installed. The part no. of your radiator is either YL3H-8005-AB or YL3Z-8005-AA both no. refer to the 1.02 inch radiator which is standard.
You should have the 1.42 inch no.YL3Z-8005-GA.
Owners are pissed and are getting the run around.Afew have gotten them replaced.

I can see the specs but am not sure if it clearly spells out what is expected of the heavy duty radiator, other than that there are only two and I have the smaller one. I might guess a dealer may try to dispute the point (to reduce my aggravation, I am preparing for the worst).
I will look up that part number and call my dealer.
By the way, I have the towing pkg and remember specifically asking about the radiator when I went to close the purchase. I wanted to know how I could be sure I got the right equipment (upgraded radiator, heavy duty shocks). The salesman explained that the heavy duty shocks are different on the inside and we checked that the oil cooler was installed. I decided that would "have to do" to convince me I had a complete towing package, but now I wonder whether I have the right shocks, too.
Yes there are some that had the wrong radiator. My 2001 King Ranch is one. I notified Ford, they said to take it to my dealer to have it checked. Dealer notified Ford it had the wrong radiator as I had the trailer package on the unit, but Ford put the smaller radiator on instead of the 1.42 inch thick unit. Ford told the dealer,"just let it go the way it is, it's fine." Well it wasn't fine with me as I paid for the larger unit and that is fraud to me. As a result, the dealer ate the new radiator and put it on for me at their espense. If you have problems tell the dealer your engine is overheating and running hot and you'll get it done with a wink from your dealer. I love the truck, it's the company that sucks! Too bad

A big thanks to my dealer for their help!!
My SC also has the wrong radiator. the local dealer denys it, even I showed him the page of specs out of the salesbook. Two days ago I got a phone survey from Ford stating that the wrong radiator was installed in some trucks, some BS about how the smaller one was so well engineered, and given the choice of a rebate or correct radiator what would I choose? was told I'd recieve some info in the mail shortly. Anyone else experience this "survey"? I really like my truck, and you're right its the company that sucks. Too bad.
OK GUYS HERES WHAT FORD DID FOR ME. I BOUGHT A NEW 2001 SUPERCREW 4*4 WITH THE CLASS 3 TRAILER PACKAGE. THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION COOLER WERE NOT AS ADVERTISED. I TOOK THE TRUCK BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY CHECKED ALL THE NUMBERS ON THE PARTS THAT WERE SUPPOSE TO BE INCLUDED WITH CLASS 3 (SHOCKS,BATTERY, ALTERNATOR, RADIATOR, ETC). WHAT HE FOUND WAS THE ALTERNATOR, BATTERY, RADIATOR, AND TRANS COOLER WHERE NOT RIGHT. HE TALKED TO THE FORD REP AND THEY TOLD HIM THAT FORD HAD DONE AWAY WITH THE SUPER COOLING PACKAGE AND THAT THE COOLING SYSTEM ON THE TRUCK WAS BETTER THAN THE SUPER COOLING (I DOUBT IT). THE REP SAID THEY WOULD CHANGE OUT THE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY AND GIVE ME A EXTENDED WARRENTY TO 6 YEARS AND 76K MILES TO QUITE MY CONCERNS ABOUT DURABILTY. I SAID THAT WOULD WORK BUT I WANTED TO SEE THE ENGINEERING DATA ON THESE CHANGES AND SHE SAID SHE WOULD SEND IT TO ME. WE WILL SEE!! IF THE DEALER GIVES YOU THE RUN AROUND TELL THEM YOU WANT THE DEALER REP TO CONTACT YOU.
I just bought by new Supercrew and after reading this thread, I went and looked at mine. Whaddaya know... I have the one inch radiator.
So, on Monday, I'm on my way down to the dealer armed with owners manual and the specs off the ford training website. I can guarantee you that if I don't get a new radiator, or at least the 7 year warranty, my next stop is going to be the Harris County District Attorney's Office, Consumer Fraud Division, followed byu a call to the Texas State Attorney General's Office.
BTW, do any of you know if the same problem has occurred in the SuperCab models... or regular cab? They allegedly all have the same setup.
I have a 2001 supercrew also and I think I have the wrong radiator. The part number I found on the radiator was XL3H-AB...The date code on it was 5/31/01...so it is pretty new. I found this number on a white tag on the drivers edge of the radiator. Nobody has mentioned this number, and the dealer is playing dumb. Is this a valid number or am I looking in the wrong place...
I found a similar white tag: XL3H-DA (06-13-00 date code) My dealer has taken this number as well as those for the alternator, battery and shocks. I expect an answer back next Thursday as to what Ford's position will be. As it stands now, it appears my June 2000 build SuperCrew has an incorrect radiator and battery (a 65Amp unit). I can't tell for the alternator and shocks.
So which battery is the correct battery?? My battery has 650 cold cranking amps, I can see that without removing the cover...But I can see nothing on the alternator....where is the part number? Thanks

Thanks to this message board I checked my supercrew and found the smaller radiator was installed in mine as well. I went to my local ford dealer, McPhearson Ford, and asked for some help to verify this equipment problem. Initially the service rep wasn't able to verify the problem, but then he got a few more people involved and it turns out the dealership has already replaced 2 other radiators because of the same problem. Unfortunately, they can't make the repairs, they say the original dealer gets some money for inspecting the vehicle against "wrong build" so I have to take it back to them to resolve it. I hope my selling dealer (which is a little further away) is as helpful as McPhearson Ford was. I'll repost once I have an answer.
Was it anyone's experience that if the wrong radiator was installed, that other parts of the towing package were also missing? I think I'm going to go pull the cover off the battery and see what I have there.
Thanks for posting everyone. Changes are I'd never have discovered this and might one day wonder why my truck overheats while towing.

[Update] Checked my battery and it's the right one.. a Motorcraft BXT-65-650, 72 Amp, 650 cold cranking amp battery. Standard is the 58/540.
I just bought my lariat supercrew with 5.4l & class III towing package 3 weeks ago. After reading these posts I also went out & popped the hood and whadda ya know ..I too got the AB 1" thk. series radiator. I bought my truck at Texan Ford in Katy TX. I havent yet had an opportunity to take my truck there to see about getting it replaced seein as how i just found out today. Has any one in harris county got this issue resolved at their dealorships? If it seems to be a large problem to get resolved maybe we should start a list of owners who have this problem and then we could speak with one voice or force a recall...
Im going to tell every supercrew owner I meet that I see has a hitch on the back.
My experience has been that ONLY the radiator was incorrect. All other items included in the classs III trailer towing package were correct. (ie battery, shocks, alternator, aux. cooling, etc.)
It took 2-1/2 weeks for my dealer to get approval from the Ford Canada representative. An appointment was made and the radiator installed by the end of the day. The quality of service work was excellent, and I'm picky.
