after market cd player

I normally post in the 1980-1986 truck forum but now I have a question about a 1994 explorer. How do you install an aftermarket deck? I talked to a guy a sterio installer and he siad you dont need a kit, just pull off the trim panel and secure the headunits "cage" to the plastic piece behind. I did this but when I put the trim piece back on the deck was sitting to far back in the hole to get the sterio trim ring on. How do you guys install your decks?

This isnt my truck and the only deck install ive done was custom on my truck so I really dont know how to get around this without cutting

I don't have an explorer, but the method this guy told you is exactly how I did mine. When you install the metal cage, you have to make sure it is exactly where you want it. The metal fins are in different places so that you can lock it at different depths. You probably don't need the stereo trim ring if the unit fits that snugly in there. My stereo doesn't have a trim ring and it looks great. But of course many units are different.

PS, how did you do your electrical setup?
