Good idea! There are a lot of things you can use for alternatives if you look!
Having 4 dogs and 2 cats, my wife was always spending big bucks on beds...I had her go down, and buy the cheapest kids sleeping bags she could find. Now, they sleep on $6.00 sleeping bags, instead of $40 dog beds!!

Go to the exercise section of WalMart, Sears, Basspro, where ever and look for an exercise mat. You can find a closed foam one that you can cut up for this. Ends up being a 6ft x 2ft roll of material for less than $10. More like $6 I think. Be sure you get the right stuff though. The "sponge" type stuff is no good for this.
