Transfer case?
There should be a label on the back of the t-case that will tell you.
Just grab a rag (every one I've ever looked at was all oily/dirty) climb under the truck, find the label (usually a round thing in the middle on back side of the t-case), wipe it off and read it.
Probably someone on here can tell you by year what it is, maybe they will chime in.

i believe that it is probably the 1356 i am almost sure that is what is in my dads 90 f-250 5 speed diesel. otherwise yea look for a tag that will be connected to one of the bolts that hold the 2 halves together
For your year F series truck they used the 1345 or the 1356 transfer case.
There was two versions of the 1356. An electronic shift and a manual shift.
I think the 1354 was used on the Bronco II and Rangers.
Click here for a pic. of the different transfer cases.

yup. 1345 case. the 4X4 shifter is in line, without any side to side movement, rite??
a 1356 case should have a sideways jog in the shift pattern to get into 4 low

TJC I'm not sure... my 95 shifter with the 1356 doesn't go side to side, but you do have to push down to get it from 4 High to Nuetral... then to 4 Low. Maybe that's what you're thinking...?
i dont mean to hi-jack this but witch one of these newer type t-cases are the tuff ones? i know back in the 70's the 205 was hard to beat,so in 80 when ford went with all aluminum cases i just thought they all junk, but know thats all i can find
chad, by 95 the 1356 case went back to the inline shift pattern with push down and pull back for 4 low. the early cases used a sideways shift to the drivers side and pull back to get into 4 low.
the early 1345 case used the push down and pull back pattern.

yup if you need to pull it down and left for 4 low it is a Borg Warner 1356. very good case.
that is the same t-case all my diesel trucks had.
and i only killed one, after 14 years of abuse with 325 h.p., the 5 speed, turbo, and no muffler exhaust
