when i got my truck it had a power programmer III with it i went to hook it up a few weeks ago and get a error code so i called and hypertech tells me someone tryed to use it on a diffrent vin and that voids the warranty. it will be $250 to fix and reflash. in the mean time i have a truck that is flashed and no way to take it off. is there anyone on this site who has had this happen and fiund a better way to fix it then spending $250 or more on somthing? the thing new is only like $320 or so. thank you for your help
You could send your pcm to Jody at DP tuner and have him burn it with a stock progam im sure, or any program he has for like $ 75 i think is what it costs. But I would try to make hypertech fix their programmer, and remind them that their performance program is now "stuck" in your truck!
yeah it came with the truck and i have no proof purches. it sucks i don't want to have ford reflash the pcm that big money i think. no i have no gun for what would be a battle

If the posters truck was flashed by that particular unit, and never used on another vehicle, it is malfunctioning or......
If the Hypertech was used on a different vehicle it will be VIN locked for that other vehicle, unless it is brought back to stock in that vehicle.
If it is brought back to stock it will not show the error code, and can be used in any compatible vehicle.
It was most likely loaned-out, and used in another PSD and never brought back to stock. (which means someone else is also driving around with a tune that can not be removed cheaply, without a stock Hypertech)
It is Hypertechs way of not allowing more than one vehicle to be programmed with a single unit.
But since they sell on Ebay for about $140, (in fact I am presently selling one on Ebay) it is cheaper to just buy a used one if you want one.
If the Power Programmer (or HyperPAC) doesn't contain this new calibration, you will not be able to re-install the tuning and the unit must be returned to Hypertech for updating. The unit will not allow the tuning to be installed automatically, if we have not tested the new calibration that was installed in your vehicle's computer by the dealership or service facility. What did happen is that the Hypertech Power Programmer downloaded a copy of the new calibration, causing it to display an error code. Once the unit is returned to Hypertech it will be sent to engineering to download and process the new OEM calibration information. It may take up to two weeks for Hypertech to provide and complete this service. All returned units should be sent freight prepaid, following instructions obtained from Hypertech Technical Sales Staff at 901-382-8888. (See Hypertech Instruction Manual under "Calibration Not Found" section.)

I think the problem is, he has a hypertech tune on his truck, and how he cannot change his tune, to anything. Whatever tune is in it is stuck. I could be wrong, I guess he will have to clarify. From what I understand, its got a hypertech tune stuck in it. I understand the concept of one tuner, one truck, if they didnt, they would not make any money, but it their tune is stuck in the truck, they have a problem they need to fix, because if the tune was already in his truck, it shouldnt matter what other trucks he hooks it to, it should not give him an error in removing or changing the current tune in his truck, it should say vin locked to the other trucks. Now if he returned it to stock, and lent it out, someone loaded it into their truck, and now it wont let him because they didnt return to stock, he needs to find his buddy. But impretty sure thats not the case.

Each Hypertech Unit can only be used on one vehicle at any given time.
So there are not to many scenarios that can play out.
In order to lend it out, you MUST first put your vehicle back to stock tune, or else it the programmer will be VIN locked to your vehicle....period.
If you lend it out ,and the guy that borrowed it does not put his vehicle back to stock tune before retuning it, you can not use it, because it is VIN locked to HIS vehicle. But your truck is stock, because it had to be to lend it out.
Chicken and the egg. LOL
So the original poster may have a tune stuck, and his tuner is malfunctioning.
But it is also possible that he has a tuner that came with the truck, that may be VIN locked to another vehicle. And he may believe his truck is Hypertech tuned when it is stock tuned.
It may also be possible that his PSD is Hypertech tuned with a different unit than the one that came with the truck, BUT the one that came with the truck would still need to be VIN locked to another vehicle, or else it should still work on his.
Whether it is tuned or not, he should be able to buy a "retuned to stock" unit and use it on his vehicle.
i would throw the tuner away and just send the pcm to jody to have it flashed stock or 80 econo if your not going to tow heavy and you have gauges. would be an easy 75.00 upgrade.
Or fight with hypertech to make them fix the problem since it is stuck on your truck.
then when you can use the tuner again. Don't and put it on ebay for a dp f5
