Single shot or split shot injectors?

Hey Guys,

Coming up soon I will be doing fuel system upgrades and big oil....

Then I want to do injectors. I know that the single shots use less high pressure oil, but with big oil and knowing that I dont race or sled pull, that I wont be maxing out my big oil setup.

So for day to day use.... towing 10 000 LB or smaller trailers... and just driving for the love of driving my PSD, should I go single or split shots???

do singles idle any different?

Thanks!!!
Bob

You'll have to get your DP reprogrammed to run singles.
Idle will sound like an OBS truck, which is ok, but will be a little louder.
You might even get better mileage too.

The split shots are more expensive.

I have already talked to Jody about having my chip re done... He was the one who suggested that I do big oil first so he only has to do my chip once....

Cost aside, is one better than the other??

Kwik, I have heard that the singles get better millage, and the OBS truck idle does not bother me....

I just put singles in my truck, and am very happy with them. Granted, mine are bigger than stock, but you can get some mild single shots as well. IMO, they are smoother than the splits going down the road. Like said, the idle is louder, but the sound once underway is about the same. Many guys have found better mileage when switching to singles, but not everyone has improved MPG with them - nobody has lost MPG that I've heard of though.

Combine the fact that singles are less expensive, you might get some MPG improvement, smoother running engine, and the noise doesn't bother you...seems like singles are the way to go. I went with new B Code injectors, which are very versitle. You can get some small nozzles for them and have little smoke but still more power. Then, if you wanted to have more power later, you'd simply have to get bigger nozzles for them rather than get another set of injectors.

Oh, and I wouldn't worry about taxing out a big oil system. Of all the big power trucks out there, I've never heard of one running out of ICP no matter what kind of injectors they are running.

Hmmm well thats good to hear...

I was a little worried, I was told that singles gave a powerstroke a rough idle, but that came from a VERY good cummins technician.

Hmmm..... excited!!

My idle is not any rougher than it was with splits, actually smoother to me. But, that could be in part attributed to the fact that they are new injectors, replacing the old ones with 170K on them.

How rough or smooth the truck is running, well, it has to do a lot with the tuning. Needless to say, you're in good hands with Jody.

Seems like the only reason to get split shots is for quieter idle.

And who wants that?
