The police and Sgi are doing spot checks this week through out the city ( Saskatoon). So if your truck is not up to par. Better be careful. They give few warnings and mostly flag your vehicle for inspections to be certified.
Nancy mentioned yesterday that was happening on the end of 8 Street, many cops laying in wait.
Luckily I`m working out of the city, mostly close to home....
I dont mind spot checks - there are lots of vehicles out there unsafe. After all those years of having mandatory safety inspections done on our commercial trucks we now do it on our farm trucks even though it isnt required - just peace of mind. Its nice to have someting to fall back on in case of an accident!!
I know some of them take things a bit too far - but for the most part I think they are a good thing.
I know one of the guys who does these spot checks. He is a Hitler about these things. We banged heads several times. Just these spot checks seem to go overboard. Granted there are a lot of vehicles needing to be off the road due to neglected owners. My truck would fail because the emerg flashers don't work. Also my exhaust needs work. I just do not have the cash. I have to right now pay 400 for a starter for my Bobcat.
I have no problem with spot checks, just quit getting their rocks off on everyone. Do it on the real crap vehicles.
Seen a truck for sale on Kijiji. He wants 1500 for it. A 69 Dodge. Reason for selling. Got caught in a spot check and truck flagged to be certified. He's not likely going to get 1500.00 for it, because now a person has to fix it all up and do the inspection crap. This will cost more than what the truck is worth.
sometimes they're stupid about it too. i remember one guy getting a van pulled off the road for being un-roadworthy. the van he bought to replace it was in worse shape, passed the safety, and is still going around...
I still here rumbling about 2010 that there maybe a tax on older vehicles. Calling it some kind of enviroment tax. To try and get people to buy newer vehicles. So they figure to tax older cars because they emit more emmissions. Well I say let it be. We may have more older cars in this province,, but they slowly do wind up in the wreckers. The ones that don't are ussually responbile owners and collectors.
These spot checks are just another way to get older cars off the road to please the green people.
