I have a 99.5 crew with 215K miles. I figure at some point the injectors will start to go, but crossing my fingers........i read an article about the #8 cylinder injector causing hard starts and rough idlling......is this right or was that in the older models?
I definitely have one. We have an '01 at the base that had a standard injector put in place and it sounds SOOOO much better. Of course, it has the requisite oil leak at the I/C boots, and all that, though.
But now all I can hear is that d@mn "clack...clack...clack..." every time #8 fires.
My '02 was built in Aug of '01. I guess that means it had the LL added later because when I listen to mine compared to the '01 at the base, I can definitely hear the little ball-pein hammer every time #8 hits, especially when first started. I guess I'll go ahead and pull the VC to make sure before spending the $$$, but by ear there's no doubt.
So the question about rough idlling was never answered. Also i had that #8 start acting poorley like a week after i bought my truck after i replaced it with a new LL it ran a little rougher on cold starts almost a miss and then quieted down after about 15 sec of running.
I never had a rough idle, just a noisier one when cold. I don't think it should cause a rough idle -- it was put in to keep the cackle down a bit. You would think that a standard AD in #8 fighting with #6 for fuel could cause a rough idle, but I've never heard that one. Now that I have it cross-connected, it should be smooth as a babies butt, but I still hear that dang "TINK-TINK-TINK...." because of it. That's the only reason why I want to ditch it to see what happens.
Of course, now that I'm seriously considering the Stage 1 single-shots, this whole plan might go out the window. Why spend $130 on one injector if I can get a whole set of 8 for a little over $600??
I've just made up a list of things to do this weekend (most of it in the garage ). Yanking the VC to get eyes on my #8 is one of them.

Joe, have you thought about the possibility that the Tink Tink tink you are getting could be valve train noise?
WonderDonkey, the rough idle could be caused by air in the system( that is also a big part of the cackle issue) from your QC fittings on your fuel tank. it could also be caused by a problem with the IPR, or IPC.
