I did a search on here and didn't find anything but I'm sure this has probably been asked before.
Does anyone make a dual gauge mounting pod for the front pillar of these trucks? I've looked around and can't find one - but that's probably because they didn't have the plastic cover on the pillars (at least the ones I've owned haven't).
I'd like to mount my boost gauge and pyrometer up there for when the diesel goes in...
I imagine you could test-fit one for an 80-96 cab. If it fits ok, then you could get a factory passenger-side one to match. Just a thought - not sure if the windshield rake angles are the same or not.
hmm - that's a good thought. I'm not sure I want to spend the $$ on a gauge pod to test it, but I'm sure I can run across a factory one somewhere any try.
Anyone know if the pillars are the same or at least similar?
I guess worse case scenario I go with my original plan and make one...
like you said go to a wrecking yard and grab one off a 80s style for the passengers side and see how it fits since if it does you plan on doing that anyway.
Modify it some how? I was thinking find whatever pod I could cheap and cutting out the section that held the gauges and just bolting that portion in.
As for the gauge cups - I had considered those too, Jegs gets like $40 a cup which seems a bit much.
I have made a cardboard tempate for a custom one that I'll make out of thin steel. If I don't like the looks of how that comes out I'll probably go back and try cutting the gauge ection out of whatever pillar pod I can find cheap.

With your mad fab skills you should be able to make a sheetmetal gauge pod with little effort. Maybe we should get together at the shop and try to make a few sets. I could use some as well. Lets work on that.
As for the dash pad, that does look cool. Were we not having the conversation regarding this? We were discussing the use of fiberglass right?
Speaking of glass, what about making a steel mold for the gauge pods, and making them out of fiberglass?
Your the glass guy, would that be easy enough to work with?
Ed - before I even started this thread I had a gauge pod drawn in CAD and had the cardboard template cut out. I just wasn't sure happy with the looks yet so I figured I'd try the bolt on way out.
I'm still messing with my templates, and tossing around the idea of buying a cheap one and cut it up. Who knows with my ADD brain...
I think I'm just gonna finish making my steal one and if I don't like it then I'll just toss it and figure it out another way. I will make sure to keep my templates so we can make more than 1 pod if it ends up looking ok.
Fiberglass is an option, but my dad is the guy - not me. I much prefer to work in steal. Fiberglass can turn out cool, but I'm too lazy for the time it takes me to make it look right.
On the dash pad - yeah we were talking about it. I saw a thread on one of my Alfa Romeo boards where a guy re-did his dash pad with bondo (I think). I never took the time to re-look up the thread as my dash is way down the list of things to do. I just saw the dash in Fordguy's pics so I figured I'd ask him how he worked it out.
sorry, I havent looked at this thread for a while. The dash pad was done by peeling off all the cracked vinyl and laying fiberglass matt and epoxy resin over it. Apparently the normal resin eats the foam underneath. I think I did three layers of fiberglass and smoothed it out with body filler and painted it. I did the flames through the window while having the window out, but I broke the window that time got it out twice before without breaking it,lol.
BTW all the wiring for my gauges is in 1/4" loom now all tucked back behind the gauges making it look cleaner. Those pics were from when I was still installing them.
I bent up a custom gauge pod, but I'm not super happy with it. IMO your cups look better. I am still going to try one of the universal pillar mounts and just return it if I don't like the looks of it too.
Oh - pics of my custom gauge pod are in my gallery if you want to see.
I used two cups and mounted near where the speaker was and routed the wire through the speaker grill. The visability is good and the lights do not bother you at night.
