A quick EDGE question

Once the truck is reprogrammed with the EDGE, can you remove it from the OBD port and not install it permanently? Or does it have to stay connected all the time? I didn't see this addressed in the owners manual. Thanks for any info!

You can remove it. I leave mine connected because I have an XL and wanted a tach. I have to remove it in the winter, I find the cold weather causes too many problems. Plus it's nice to have access to trans temp & water temp on the road.

yes, this is correct.... you can unplug it and the trucks pcm will run the program that you have it set to.... in fact, this is how i got away with mine for a while.... i programmed it and took it out, and then the wife didnt have to know about it right away !!! by the time she found out i had it, i had it for several months.... so it was all good to leave installed for me !!! they just dont understand.

LMAO, I wondered how some of you got an edge past your significant (or insignificant, I guess) others. That what i would have to do.

Matt, your right though, they just don't understand.

As the saying goes, it is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. Well, for most things anyhow...

If your battery is marginal then the edge will give you problems in the winter replaced my battery no problems after that and this is in 20 plus below temps

what is the process to remove? do you have to set your program and then remove with the truck off? I only ask this because I made the mistake of switching power modes at a stop light and when it turned green, the edge was still writing the program but I tried to turn it over anyway, would not start and the program failed I then unplugged it from the pcm slot and once again it would not start so I put on my hazards as people behind me got pissed, had to replug it and wait for it to reprogram iteself..........

I reprogrammed the truck according to the EDGE instructions (I used the towing program, number 2 on the list of choices). Then took the truck for a ride to make sure all systems were go. Then shut the truck off (engine off, key off) and removed the EDGE from the OBD port. Everything has been fine since then. I put the EDGE back in its orig box and secured it under the back seat. That way it is out of sight/mind, but always with the truck in case of a CEL or a reprogramming.
