Mile and a half

Sorry, except for the hiway between Houston and Corpus Christi, i haven't driven on a hiway that would afford an officer a straight line of sight mile and a half advantage. I just moved to Ga from Alaska 4 months ago, and the detector that was a good thing back home, is a great thing here.
Catch me if you can

But if done properly - he should wait and just check the cars that appear to be speeding... and I can normally check cars up to 1/2 mile plus away and the reading is instant. Now I'll let you in on a little secret... radars naturally pick up the object with the most mass (ie, semi's or trains)... so if you're hammering down it's best to stay near a semi and if you're running along side of a train and it's moving the same direction you are - have at it. Spiggy was right about laser detectors... 1000% useless. If conditions are right - I could check you about 1 1/2 - 2 miles away... at that distance the beam is only about 2 inches round... and I'm not aiming for your windshield... I'm going for headlights, license plate or bumper. let me know if you have any questions.

ps - Cops hiding behind stuff is cheating... yes I'm after speeders - but I'm going to do it fairly.
How do you combat laser jammers? I have had one for a while and they work wonders. Two days ago, a cop was hiding and 'instant' clocked me. My detector went off for a good 20seconds for a direct hit and as I was driving by I looked at the cop and he was checking his gun. Couldnt get an accurate reading. I mean this has happened to me countless times. The laser jammer has saved me ten-fold compared to the radar detector itself. Not saying I am blatantly disobeying posted speed signs, but some are just out of hand.

Actually now that I see you are in Ohio, this happend to me on 75North in Ohio, and the guy was hiding behind an overpass off to the side. All I could see was his "Mountie" hat after it was too late, he shook his head at me when I drove by. I just waited for the lights, but none ever came of it. The jammer always works well as an added protection.

Never encountered a laser jammer... if couldn't get a clean reading while they were coming at me... I would turn and get you going away from me... I doubt you would have protection in both directions... but at the same time - speeders are a dime-a-dozen... I would just punt on you and get the next guy.

It's all part of the game...

Kinda like a duck shoot.

I dont have a detector or jammer, but wish I did. I was following this dude on the I-5 in San Juaquin Valley, we were up 95-100 he had what I assumed was a detector so I followed him. he slowed to 70 and got in slow lane and so did I. 1/2-mi later there sat Poncherello on the shoulder. I dont even think the dude I was following knew his detector saved both of us.

I hear ya. Actually used to have one front and rear and just decided not to put it on the rear on my truck because I tow a lot with it and wouldnt serve a lot of good hitting the front of my trailer majority of the time. Also, If I cant find you when I am going past you and I haven't slowed down if need be, then I have issues. Have you heard of fish finders doing the same thing? I heard that and never knew if it was true. Something about the frequency.

I appreciate what you guys do for us everyday keeping our cities safe.

K40. I have their remote mount detector and seperate laser jammers. They are a couple hundred bucks just for the jammer. In my personal opinion I would buy one of those before I would get a detector. Majority of cops are using laser these days to be able to have the instant on/off action.
