Here's my problem:. Found burnt Fusible link(orange stripe on black wire) Fixed and checked Fusible link. The engine would start...then would die after a couple min, and wouldn't restart till it sat for an hour. Now engine will turn over, BUT WILL NOT START at all. I listened at the gas filler..no noise of fuel pump while key is on. PLEASE HELP
When the system is working as it should, the computer will turn the pump on for only a few seconds when the key is first turned on. It then waits for the PIP signal (or the TACH signal or something like that) before it will turn the pump on again. Is it possible you just missed that brief window when the pump runs?
The self-test connector has a fuel pump test lead (outer lead on the short end of the trapezoid if I remember correctly) that you can use to ground the fuel pump relay and see if the pump runs. If the pump runs when you ground the test lead (key on), then you have to figure out why the computer can't close the relay. If it still doesn't run, then you have to figure out why the pump isn't getting power.
stator problem. It's in the distributor. Ford had a bad problem with them failing. Mine went out while I was hooking up the boat. Didn't get to go fishing that day.
I have a 1988 bronco 2 and it will start then die. I noticed before that, it was loosing power briefly and got worse as time went on....any idea what could be the problem? I checked the feul pump and filters and they seem ok...
How did you check the fuel pump? The most reliable test for a fuel pump is a fuel pressure test. If you haven't already, put a fuel pressure gauge on it.
I would also suggest pulling codes. Not every fault will trigger the CEL to come on.
The other thing I would do would be to clean the IAC and maybe the throttle body.
