strobe lights install?

Whats the easiest way to install strobes for emergency and warning uses ? I work along the highway and have a dash mount led flasher ,but want to install the clear strobes I see in the backup light lenses and in the front headlamp assys or grilles..Any kits available ? Can I but some plug ins or replacements for the fog lamps so as they come on instead of the useless fogslamps? 05 f-150 4x4 stx thanx

I don't believe there are any direct replacements out there but you can go to www.galls.com and they have lots of different kits to order to use. I had some hidaway stobes in my 97 f150 they are fairly easy to install.

My friends and I installed some strobes on my buddies truck. He bought the strobes at a Acklands-Granger outlet. It came with the bulb, the switch and the relay. We drilled holes in his corner marker lights in the back side and mounted the bulbs. Then we wired it from there. They worked fine but they weren't very bright. If you pick yours up make sure they are bright.
I am thinking of mounting some amber strobes inside my truck. I'd like two mounted against the inside of the rear window at the top corners and two mounted behind the grill.
I am then going to install a siren on my truck so's I can "Chirp" at cars that are driving dumb in the city....lol.

How hard they are to install depends on what type of kit you have. Some are pretty simple and some are a PITA. I have a 8 way 180 watt box in mine that was time consuming due to all of the diffrent pattern wires ( but extremely bright), while I had a 6 way box in my old truck that was easy. By the way, don't buy from galls they are way overpriced.

Thumbs up

I have a 2004 F150 STX and I have strobes mounted in the fog lamps. I left the fog lights in and still use them. The most important thing to remember where ever you mount them, make SURE you have at least a 1" clearance all the way around the light. These lights get very hot and can melt the light lens real quick. I have a Whelen 90 watt 6 head stobe unit I bought brand new on ebay for $175.00. To wire the lights isn't hard at all. Any common sense you can do it. Good Luck.

I mounted strobes in the fog lights and the headlights and one in each tail light. I have a power pack to the front and one to the back that are mounted under the hood. As pyro said, make sure you have that 1" of clearance so you dont melt the lights and make sure you get a good seal on it when your done. Mine didnt have a tight seal I guess and filled up with muddy water when i went mudding.

how did you drill your holes in the headlights? did you have any chipping or cracking of the chrome reflector? i did this on my harley and used a drill bit and it chipped my chrome reflector up and could see the chips around the bulb. dont want this to happen to my headlights in my truck....

If you get a set of LED STROBES you get rid of the problem of the bulb getting hot, therefore you can put them anywhere. Also the LED will last much longer, and you can leave them on as long as you want without the vehicle running because they dont use alot of battery.
I know some guys who have put them in the 3rd brake/cargo light as well. A & W DIRECT stocks both the LED and standard strobes. And yes the LED setups are just as bright. I have also seen some kits on ebay.

I have white LED strobes installed in my truck. The front ones are installed in the fog lights and the rear ones are installed in the the reverse light assembly. They are made by a company here in Ontario that supplies the local Police services with emergency lighting solutions.

They are not overly bright during the day, but at night they are VERY visible.

does anyone happen to know if strobes are legal in Ontario Canada? Can't have a flashing red light...these are reserved for emergency vehicles. But amber yellow is legal.
Not sure if a ticket would be issued for an ordinary citizen using strobes?

I had mine installed at a place in Bolton that does all the local police forces and the guys there told me that yellow and white ones are perfectly legal unless I switch to alternating the strobe from side to side like the cops do. In other words, for them to be legal both sides (left and right) need to flash at the same time.

Cheers,

GD.

does "strobing" decrease the turnsignal and backup bulb life significantly, or at all?

The strobes are a completely different bulb/LED so the signal and backup bulbs are not affected. The strobes have to be mounted in addition to the factory bulbs in the housing, ie, each housing will have 2 bulbs.

Cheers,

GD
