99 explorer engine knocking

99 explorer engine knocking
My engine ran hot and all the water ran dry...now after changing the water pump and thermastat, the engine is knocking. What could it be? Also, I changed the oil.

Good chance you did some damage to the motor when it was overheated. Could be bearings, could be top end, hard to say exactly.

Its possible that you bent a rod.. how long did you drive the exp while it overheated?
