I just pulled the motor out of my 70 F100, it has a D3TE block w/ 105 cast backwards in the fron driver side. Is this a service block or what? The heads are C4AE 6090G, Are these factory on my 70? IT has a C7TE9425-F Intake,It has C5SE 9430C and C5TE 9431B Exh manifolds, can anyone tell me if these are factory on this truck or does sound like its been changed, I don't know if I have a 360 or a 390 I will be tearing it down this weekend to find out.
It can't be factory. The "reverse 105" blocks are common in 74-76 trucks, but I've never seen one in a pre-73. The engineering code is the real tipoff, though. It starts with "D3TE", which indicates that your block is a design that was initially released for production in 1973. As you have a 1970 model truck, it obviously can't be the poriginal engine.
C4 heads are also unlikely to have been original equipment on your truck, though it is theoretically possible. You would expect to see C7 or C8 heads on a 1970 model.
MGT351, none of the parts are original. I’ve got a D3TE block with a crack, make sure you check yours over. Your heads are early big port intakes, should have come with the small port C8’s. That 2V intake has ports way too small for your heads, what’s the date code right next to the casting number? The passenger-side exhaust manifold is off a Tbird and the outlet angles off differently than the correct truck manifold. The driver’s side exhaust is from an older truck, both your manifolds should be D0’s. Will be waiting to find out what you dig out of it.
I pulled the engine when I started restoring the truck, when I put the engine on the stand I drained the oil and found it had water in the oil, I have pulled the intake and one head so far. It has one bent pushrod. The pistons look like they have 4 valve reliefs and make a crest in the middle. Anyone have any ideal what it is 360/390? I will pull the pan on Friday and hopefully know more. Hoping I don't have a cracked block. The motor doesnt have 35min run time w/ the oil that was in it. And the old oil I took out was just dirty no water.
The only way to know whether it is a 360 or a 390 is to measure the stroke. That's simple enough to do, especially now that you have the heads off. If the stroke is 3.5", it's a 360. If the stroke is 3.78", it's a 390.
Technically speaking, you could also look at the crankshaft or one of the rods and determine whether it is a 360 or a 390, but it's far easier just to drop a ruler in one of the cylinders, rotate the crank, and see what the stroke is.
Pulled the pan earlier and got 2TA off the crank and one of the rods has C7TE-A on it, what do you guys think? I know its not a 390 (very dissapointed) I will be looking for a 390 shortblock to use in place, The C4AE 6090G, how are they for a performance head?
