hi everybody. my 1971 was cake to change. i just took the cover off, let the fluid drain, and then put it back on and filled the bolthole with 90w oil and a pump to get it in there. but my 69 i have right now doesnt seem to have that same type of differential. i think it is a 9" and my rpms on the highway are about 2800 at 70mph, (if that gives you any idea of what type it is)
i took a good look at this thing and i really dont understand how i will be able to change this oil....
Sounds like you have a 9", only easy way is to get it hot then pull the oil out the fill hole. This is a lot easier and faster than removing the pumkin unless you suspect damage.
where is the fill hole? i do not see one.
and if i suck the oil out there will still be old gunky stuff in there.
what i did to my 71 was take the cover off, and spray the living daylights out of it with brake cleaner and did a real thorough job. its something you are supposed to do every 90k miles and most people NEVER do it. i just know that stuff looks like muddy coffee in there.
I dump the D60 around every 25K miles, the oil comes out clear amber. I run a large magnet inside that picks up normal metal wear powder. Old rearend passed 940K and still tight.
The 9" should have the filler on the drop out unit.
