Yes, I know, not many of you still have dial-up, but I'm too cheap to pay more.
Anyway, just wanted to know if anyone else has had a problem with unselected access numbers being used....I just got a whopper of a phone bill due to this & am curious if I'm the only one (seems somewhat suspicious to me).
when i lived in england i had dial up and i guess someone hacked into my comp and installed something that when i went on line, it would route through their number.
it acted strange, like went off-line for no reason every so often.
then i got some huge phone bill for like over 500 dollars, i called the phone company and they explained the whole thing to me, they didn't charge me either, they just wanted all my info from me so they can try to trace down who is doing it.
yes, it was a non-local number, but we never authorized that number (had authorized about a half dozen local numbers). They only show the number being dialed very briefly so we never caught on until we got the phone bill.
After dumping the absolutely worst cable company in this or any other country,Charter, I went Direct and People pc. I'm satisfied so far. The naps do me good while waiting for dial-up.
I was calling Charter almost monthly for problems and the last time, about 3 months ago I wound up talking to a woman in Nova Scotia about my problem and they still haven't shown up! I figure she was using Charter herself.
I been useing Peoplepc for a little over a year and havn't had a problem with the numbers "Yet".
I was on Charter about 6 years and fineally dumped them and all I got now is dialup.
I guess I am cheep also.
When I call Charter to complain or report a problem I don't really want to talk to a guy in Kansas City or a woman in Minnesota or Nova Scotia.
The guy in KC asked if I'd had such and such problem before. I said, any time it rains somewhere east of the Mississippi River!
I was also paying those people over 140 bucks a month, too. Now it costs me 39.95 plus about 10 bucks for dial up. It was like getting a 100 dollar a month pay raise.
i have people pc too and although i never had a problem with that kind of thing i have had them bill me three times in one month so i called customer service and got that straight no problems since
