I haven't had a problem with my CPS but I know that it can be a PITA. I'm going to get one but my question is..I've seen quite a large spread in pricing, any where from $25- over $100 for one. Ford claimes a "new" designed one and IH has a "blue" one that's the cats meow. Is there a big difference besides the price?
I have ran the blue and they are nothing special. I *thought* that maybe my idle was a little smoother but that was probably more imaginiation than anything else. Once I put my tuner in I took the blue out and went to black as the blues do not play nice with tuners.
Now they have come out with the gray and I have one of those for a spare. Part number is F7TZ-12K073-B. Buy one of those and do not waste your money on the blue or black unless you want your wallet black and blue. Ha!
Hey Scott, what kind of problems have you had or heard of with the Blue CPS. I'm running the DI tuner with the Blue CPS so Im curious on this Info. I didn't have a Cps go out on me. I just decided to upgrade to the Blue one. I kept my original as a spare. Thanks, Country

I have been running the gray CPS for a few months now. It might be a coincidence but I think my fual milage has increased since I put it in. I will have to fill up this week so I will know for sure then.
I will be posting a rant about the "Blue CPS" but here is my .02 I fell for this a few weeks ago. It runs fine at idle and when getting into it, but running at a constant 1,000 to 1,500 RPM it has a miss to it. Kind of like a gas engine with a backfire/fouled plug. I have also been getting about 1-2 MPG less. Go with the grey one. I got mine for $25 at the Ford dealer. Go with that one.
Great Info Greg, Thanks. I haven't experienced any of the problems you've described here myself, but I do have idle issues that Ive thought to be caused by the powersteering pump check valve. Just not sure yet. But hey at $25 bucks it doesn't hurt to try. Thanks Agian. Country

I never had any problems with it. Truck ran fine with it in the stock configuration and did fine even with the tuner after it was installed. I ran the blue for about a month with the tuner and then started to read things about it advancing the timing (some say it retards) and that they aren't good with tuners. I haven't ever asked David about but will if I think about it next time I am down there.
Hey puffen... I haven't seen the first report yet about one of the new gray ones failing. Mine has been running for several months now with no problems as well. If you buy, get two and then you have an emergency spare for a fellow PSD owner who might be in a crunch on the side of the road.
Installed the grey one (F7TZ-12K073-B) today and noticed a lot smoother idle and quieter all over. Will make a road trip tomorrow and will know more. I got two of them for $28 based on advice from others on this forum from a Ford dealer back east. Free shipping on first order.
Thanks for the link to the $14 CPS, is it a short time offer thing or have they been doing this a while? I wouldn't be home for another week or so and I hope to get it ordered then. Thanks again.
