I have a 2005 F150 supercrew with 41,000 miles.
My engine light stays on. I need to know the following:
1. Can I repair the problem myself or does it have to go to a dealer?
2. How long can I drive with the light on before serious damage is done?
I would have it checked out. I think you can take it to places like autozone or such and have them read the code for you. It may be a very simple issue.

I agree! Autozone seems to be a popular place to go for this... if you have one nearby.
...Then come back here and list the code(s) that is/are pulled......
Fwiw: I purchased my own reader for less than 150$, but its not always about the code pulled....(it could be upstream or downstream)
I went to Advance Auto.
The code was P2104 - TAC system forced idle.
I was told it was a false reading. If it happens again, bring the truck back.
I would appreciate your response.
Thanks for the advice.
