Distributor/ timing Help

I have an 85 F150. 300/6, T-18. Last week the drive gear broke off the distributor while the truck was running and had to be towed home. I have dropped a new distributor in, but can't get the truck to run. I'm not sure if I'm using the correct timing mark, one looks like a little scratch in the rust, and the other is a notch on the pulley. The scratch seemed to correspond correctly with the valves and compression gauge, but the truck would not start. I have re-alligned everything with the notch now, but it still won't go. I have advanced/retarded timing, switched firing order 180 degrees, checked compression, made sure I was getting spark, and can smell fuel when I pull the plugs to check everything. The truck does have the EFC and associated distributor. Any help would be greatley appreciated as I am out of ideas.

Do you have the valve cover off and everything is moving in there? I wonder what else happened in there you might have some ground down lobes and other wear!! Take a wire brush to them timing marks you might be looking at the wrong side and are trying to run it 180 degrees out of sync. Are you getting spark from the ignition coil while cranking?
