The cut off date for the early 99 is 12-7-98, anything after that will be a 99.5. They changed some of the suspension after 3-1-99, so someone might have the older suspension with the newer motor.
I have the door badges and lumbar support on my " early ". I went through 3 front rotor assemblies before I got it right.
What did they change on the suspension? then lets get back to what this has to do to change to a 99.5 turbo.
the D66 turbo at the very bottom of this page is a bolt on turbo for the early 99..i was told by them with this turbo and a set of split shots and little tuning you could see 412 HP
So my question is...what are the differences performance wise, and are they significant enough to spend the time, and money, to do the upgrades to the 99.5.

Or would you be better off buying a BB or something?
I think it was worth swapping to the 99.5..but i got my parts from a donor truck..I dropped EGT's by 100 to 150* going to a stock 99.5 turbo with the wicked wheel...in my sig is a link for exploded view of a 7.3..in that link is the differences between the two turbo's..early 99 was all 2" air flow and the 99.5 are all 3 inch..i lost a little low end boost but gained a little more on the high end..i will gain a little more low end when i do the HPOP to a 17# rather then the 15* the early 99 has..
i am not sure what the BB or other early 99 turbo's will do as far as EGT's..your still pushing air through a 2" hole..
I can get a stock 99.5 turbo off a diesel tech I know for 150$ it has 70K on it but the guy he got it off of upgraded to a BB. I will have to get that kit with the new spider and everything I guess. Know of any place that sells them cheaper??
You also have to deal with Ford has a habit of mixing parts on a changeover like that to use up all the old stuff, so you can have a 99 with a mix of early and late stuff hung onto it.
Dieselsite has the conversion parts. 70K for 150$ go for it. My turbo has 250K on it and runs strong. You will notice more gain changing out the HPOP to a 17* pump. My truck felt little difference from the turbo, but when i swaped the pump, you could feel a big difference top end. Low end remained about the same, but she pulled like a freight train on the top end(before I had problems getting up past 85mph15*pump, now with the 17* the speedo needle buries into the cluster past 100mph. If your looking for more power, and your turbo is still good, just get a 17* pump, easier to change, and more power increase.
To switch to a late 99 style turbo you need:
5 way spider, turbo, intake boots from spider to manifolds, up-pipes, pedistal, misc orings. Check ebay for those parts.
You have an early 99 so unless its been replaced, you still have the 15* pump. Mine has 36" tires on it, and that was with edge programming, mine would go over 100mph but it took a long time to get there.
