My daughter and buds put in a Bullydog chip and when it was switched to the #3 position while driving the motor shut off and will not restart. Chip was removed, but still no luck. It cranks and the tach bumps up, but no start.
A friend put an analyzer on it and found a CMP nonfunction error, but I thought that would cause the Tach to stay quiet when cranking. I've checked the fuses and can't find any problem.
Any other ideas? Should I just buy a new CMP and try it?
We're going to need a bit more info about the truck. With a cam position sensor I take it this is a diesel?
Have you tried resetting the computer by pulling the neg battery cable for a while. As long as you didn't fry any circuits/sensors this should put all your sensors back to learning mode and make the truck learn how to run all over again. As you might expect it might run a little strange for the first 15-20 minutes after resetting it.
The important question is, what was that #3 position supposed to do? (Mechanically that is). I know on my brothers diesel his chip modifies the computer program to dump more fuel into the cylinders when in the Xtreme position. It would be easier to diagnose the problem if we knew what the chip was trying to do to the engine.
Thanks, its a 1996 F350 7.3l turbo. I don't know what the chip is doing in the 3rd position. Haven't seen a manual on the thing. I'll try disconnecting the battery cable and will see if I can obtain the manual from my kid.
