building a 302, I looked at the casting numbers post, didn't find my numbers, can anyone help? on the heads C8TE and C9TE,also 9k2, the block is at the machine shop but one number I remember is 9k7.
I am boring it .04 over sealed power flat tops, cam .488 lift 284 adv. duration 218duration at .05. 110 lobe sep. how do you think this combo will run? I will either run an edelbrock 600 cfm or dual 500 cfm. also have 2.25 dual exhaust with an h pipe and glasspacks.
My book shows no C8TE head, only the C9TE, I'd suspect you misread the casting number and they're both C9's. The block date code sounds correct for an early 70 truck. Make sure the pistons you choose have as close to a 1.610 pin (compression )height as possible to maximize the comp ratio. cam sounds like a good torquey(RV type) cam for a truck. I've never run an Edelbrock 2x4 setup, but have run multi carb Holleys, if you take the time to tune them correctly to start with, they'll run fine, just don't expect more power with your build, it'll be more eye candy here. Get headers if you haven't already. Port the exhaust sides of the heads, remove the Thermactor bumps if they have them. Open the port sides and raise the roof then blend down into the bowls under the valves, blend the bowls under the intakes too.
Baddad457 couldn't have said it better, make sure you check the pin height, if you can get some 85 to 87 ho pistons they have a 1.619 CH and will put the pistons right at 0 deck or close to it. Part number on the pistons L2488F-40
Also i would put some ARP rod bolts in it.
As far as the 2X4 set up I have a few freinds that run them and all they do is screw with them, I suggest a single carb unless you are going for the wow factor.
and port the heads, just do the exhuast side.........
here are some pics of some E7 heads I did Port pics
thanks guys, putting the pistons side by side the pin in the new ones are higher than the stock ones. can you tell me what cc these heads are?
yes i want the 2x4 set up more for wow than power. this motor came out of a 70 ford pickup.
If the pin on the new ones are higher up, than the old ones, you've got the wrong pistons, they're going to lower the comp ratio. that's the last thing you want to do, unless you're going for a blower or turbo. The C9 heads have 58 cc chambers.
thanks baddad457, your last reply put me in a little panic so I did some research, heres what I found, compression distance 1.605, deck clearance .011, should have 9.12 compression and 307 ci at .04 over. Parts are all at the machine shop now so I'll have to check with him monday to make sure.
thanks again for your help, I'll have more ? before this is finished.

Ok, (sigh of relief for you) you dodged a bullet there. 1.605 is close enough. I'd mill the deck .010 to get the top even all over in relation to the crank and get it to zero deck. Have them check the head mating surfaces too, to make sure they're flat. Mill em as necessary.
