Coolant Flow Restrictor

I am finishing up the 351 and need to know where I can purchase the coolant flow restrictor. No luck at NAPA. I understand this is necessary? Thanks in advance.

if it's a Cleveland, here's a lead. if it's a 351M/400, they are cast into the block, it's not a removable piece.

Smile Thanks grclark

Thanks for the info. It is indeed a Cleveland. This was a new one to me. Are they necessary and how do they help cooling.

first, are you sure it's missing? necessary? yes! they are critical to be in place for the cooling system to operate properly. here's a link to a great explanation of how the bypass system works, http://www.are.com.au/feat/techt/thermostat.htm

here's a pic of the restrictor installed in the block,

if you don't have a round brass thing that is press fit into the block, you need one. if you have it, you have it. the thermostat is special to work with the restrictor, as described in the first link.

Where would one get one of these if it is missing? I looked on Tim's website, but I didn't see any listed.

EDIT: I see you posted earlier in a post that it is cast into the block. I've heard of people actually missing theirs. This doesn't make sense if it is cast into the block.

53, here's the lead again,
http://www.network54.com/Forum/11941...ad/1181003900/

there's a Email addy in there so i don't want to post it here and get it deleted. there's another solution that allows you to use a Windsor/generic type Tstat,
http://www.network54.com/Forum/11941...ad/1170725259/

and again, the 351M/400 block was designed to eliminate the pressed in part, the block is simply cast with the restrictor. maybe Ford was thinking that they might want to experiment with the size of the Cleveland restrictor for "off road" purposes?
