clicking noise inside dashboard
i have an 00 limited v10. i already know the actuator problem, but there is this clicking noise that comes out of my dashboard when driving only...the door locks go crazy don't even lock or unlock, just unlock! i usually fix the noise by pressing the gear shift lever up and back but still on "D" modebut then the locks will not work until the car is off. my question is are the door locks connected to the gear lever and if so, can i cut only that wire and will my locks still work? please help and which wire is it, color, etc.

Sounds like a short in the wire on your gear shift lever, which can be replaced as a single unit. I suspect that it is tied to either your vehicle security module (VSM), general electronics module (GEM) , or at least whatever module it is that controls the automatic locking your doors when you reach 5mph. There's no way to get the wires out of it the shift lever, as the palstic end of the handle is snap fit and glued on (don't ask me how I know). If it were one of the modules themselves, repositioning your shift lever would make no diffference.
Anyway, the wiring is run through the gear shifter shaft to a little plug, so it's really "plug and play". Shorts in this wiring are not all that uncommon.
I would personally open up the steering wheel column to check this out first and simply replace the shifter altogether as the true fix. There are two Ford parts sonsors on the site that I would contact, both having good reputations with FTE members here. Supposedly, the pin that holds the shift lever in place is a one-time use item, so make sure to get a new one when (or if) you order a replacement shifter.
If I had the part numbers and pricing info, I would give that to you as well, but I don't. A quick phone call can get it though.
