2003 XLT V6 Peformance
I think I know there isn't much I can do here, but you never know, so I have 2003 XLT, 3.55 4.0, 4X4, 23,000 miles, no other major options. Drives nice, smooth, tracks straight, so far so good. I have had a previous 2nd generation explorer - 2000.I wish I could get just somewhat better milage, kind of always know that I can get 20 on the flats, yet it seems this vehicle is very sensitive to any speed variation. I get 19 a lot, have seen 21, but you really have to run a long time to get that. For 2003 anyone aware of any PCM changes by Ford, or any other reprogramming tips or tricks that really made a difference?
Also, while the transmission seems fine and even with it being a 5 speed auto, just seems that it sometimes it still has to shift 2 gears to get out of it's own way. Kind of like at 45 or so and you need to move out, it does, but where is the torque?
I know these engines are average, yet durable, only trying to see what has worked for some of you. It's not so much complaining as saying for all the engineering in this model, it could be so much more responsive.
Thanks
Mike
suv. it aint the fastest off the line and wont outrun my F150 up a hill, but i think the EXP is a great vehicle. I also wish it got 22 MPG, and dont understand why it cant with a 5 speed, but is is 4 x 4 and a little heavy.... also very stable due to the weight. I just accept it and figure thats how it goes. Great little truck.
