So after reloading the stock tune and disconnecting my batteries I closed the hood and locked the truck manually so it could sit overnight. I just went out now to unlock the truck and my key won't work either door locks. It just turns left and right but the lock doesn't respond. Is this something that requires battery power? I really don't want to call AAA, but I feel it's inevitable.
If anyone has any ideas please respond or PM me! Thanks!
Well, I ended up calling AAA. They were on scene in 5 minutes! Took me & the guy about 30+ minutes to finally get it open. Had to pry the door back using an air bag, then used a lock-out stick to pry the door handle open.
Apparently the previous owner somehow disabled the lock cylinders in the doors as it feels like there is no linkage connected. I've never noticed because I've always had the remote fob or the keypad to use. I guess it's a good thing as it appears someone had tried to break in using the door cylinders before as the paint is chiped and dented just a little bit under the door handle.
I've heard of another way to get in when this happens. You can park another vehicle close and using long jumper cables, connect the positive lead to the red wire on the starter, then ground the other lead to the frame. This would supply voltage back to the battery and allow you to use your fob or keypad.
I haven't tried it myself, but it seems like it would work.
Both batteries terminals were disconnected but only from the batteries. all wires were still attached at the post clamps. I guess if there is a wire that runs directly from the starter to the battery post clamp there should be no problem doing that.
I think the solenoid is built into the starter on these trucks. But like others said, you would have to be sure the positive battery cable wasn't grounded by laying against anything metal.
